Jubilee

Celebrating with "the Royal Family"
This week the whole country is celebrating as the Queen begins her 60th year on the throne.  Bunting is strung all over, flags are waving and people are wearing their best red, white and blue.  Everywhere you go the mood is one of celebration!

On Friday The Bliss School had a mufti day, a day in which students did not have to wear their uniforms. Instead they could wear either red, white and blue or dress like a royal.  I chose the fancy dress option, and even wore a "fascinator".  I thought, "When will I ever be able to wear one of THESE again?!?!?"   It did feel a bit like having a bird perched on my head, but I felt very glamorous.  And the kids looked fabulous.
Who's behind that patriotic wig and hand?
There were many princes and princesses
We had an assembly in which the reception and year 1 students (ages 4 and 5) lead the school in singing the national anthem, "God Save the Queen".  They had hand movements to go along with the song, including a royal wave that brought a smile to many in the audience.  Students from year 6 had made a power point presentation featuring some of the highlights from Queen Elizabeth's sixty years on the throne.

And the governors of the school were there to present each child with a commemorative mug and Bible.  The mugs were designed and handcrafted by a local potter.  The Bibles were a special edition created for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.  I'm sure the students at Bliss Charity will remember this day for years to come!

With the Queen!
Meanwhile, back at Beaver Cottage we decorated the house with ribbons and bunting.  A parent from my class made my family a lovely cake, which I decorated for the Jubilee.

The Nana went to several Jubilee parties in the village, dressed in a hat she designed herself especially for the occasion!  And we watched on the telly as the Royals floated down the Thames on a barge, cheered on by thousands of fans.

It's been fun to be in England with such a special event happening and share in the festivities.
